The transport strike would cause damage to business and consumers, the SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) said yesterday.

Although talks between employers and unions were in progress and supposedly close to resolution, strike action – in some cases associated with intimidation and damage to property – had taken place, it said.

Though it sympathised with worker demands, chief executive Neren Rau said their action “smacks of exploiting a situation that stands to bring further hardship to all South Africans”. – Sapa.
