PLANO, Texas — The North Texas Tollway Authority voted Wednesday to move to an all-electronic toll booth system by 2010, eliminating staffed toll booths and cash payments to cut down on traffic.

Customers who already have electronic “TollTags” won’t notice a change. Cameras will photograph the license plates of drivers without TollTags and a bill will be sent to the registered address of the vehicle.

Officials say the change will affect about 400 or so toll collection employees, but that it will find new jobs for the employees within the system.

The North Texas Tollway Authority serves Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant Counties.
