As Rea Vaya was still on hold during the Confederations Cup, the City implemented a park and ride service called iTransie 2 Ellispark! to ensure that all spectators could travel safely to the Confederations Cup games at Ellis Park.
megan_itransieThis completed similar services organised by the Gauteng Provincial Government, under the banner of Gauride for Gauteng residents to travel to Rustenburg and Bloemfontein as well as between Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and other Gauteng municipalities.
Park and rides ran from the Coco-Cola Dome, Wits West Campus, Bezuidenhout Valley Park and Nasrec Expo Centre, four hours prior and after every game with bus shuttles operating every 15 minutes.
Security guards were also on duty at all the park and ride venues to ensure the safety of vehicles and commuters.
Following the first game, the City in consultation with FIFA and the LOC decided to offer the park and rides services at no charge to the public.
