The Ekurhuleni Metro council’s roads and transport oversight committee want councillors to consider approving the upgrading of the Germiston train station at a cost of R360 million.

The committee said the limited capacity of the station to accommodate the taxis which fetch and deliver passengers near the station has led to congestion on the streets in that vicinity.

The ablution facilities, commuter shelter, access roads, lighting and signage boards need upgrading.

“The upgrade will include the development of the taxi rank, rail station and the construction of residential units and a hotel,” the committee said.
