The City of Johannesburg will officially unveil the Rea Vaya’s fleet of busses on Sunday.

The unveiling of the busses is taking place two weeks before the first phase of the controversial Bus Rapid Transit system is launch.

Hundreds of people raised their concerns about the system at a Public Transport Summit at NASREC on Saturday.

Officials insisted that they would address the worries of commuters, especially those around safety.

Taxi operators who are outraged by the launch of the bus system have threatened to hold violent protests.

Meanwhile, Johannesburg Mayor Amos Masondo argues the system will improve the standard of public transport.

“Public transport is at a turning point and together we have the opportunity to ensure a lasting legacy that our children will be proud of,” the mayor said.
