Work on a new highway running from Egypt in North Africa to South Africa is now underway following agreement on a key link. A Sudanese firm, Zawaya Group for Development and Investment has teamed up with Egyptian company State Holding Company for Building and Construction to build a 400km stretch of the highway. This US$500 million project will run through East Africa and link Dongola in Sudan with Aswan in Egypt. The new Cape-to-Cairo road project will eventually connect Africa’s most southerly city, Cape Town, with Alexandria in Egypt.
