Construction of the depot facilities for the R25-billion Gautrain rapid-rail link is well advanced, with the train depot administration buildings and the bus depot – which will house the specially branded buses transporting commuters to and from the Gautrain stations – already complete.

Delivery and installation of the equipment for the operations control centre is in progress. This centre, to be housed in the administration building, will be the hub for all signalling, telecommunications, automatic fare collection, and closed-circuit television operations.

The project’s first trains will hit the track by 2010, with the 80-km project to completed in full by 2011.

Here is a visual update on the project.
