South African Airways (SAA) said on Friday it was on track to meet the June 1 deadline for e-ticketing compliance.

SAA said its issuing rate for e-tickets exceeded 96,5% which is the current industry average according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

“IATA member airlines around the world are required to eliminate paper tickets,” said SAA spokesperson Robyn Chalmers.

She said more three million domestic customers have used e-ticketing since SAA launched it in September 2003.

E-ticketing is IATA’s business initiative aimed at helping airlines contribute towards an environmentally friendly future. It allows for the issuing of a single e-ticket that includes flights on other airlines and exchange of e-tickets with other carriers and partners.
