The leaking of confidential Oudtshoorn municipality information to a private businessman is being investigated by a Pretoria firm of labour consultants.

Roodt, Geldenhuys and Partners was appointed by municipal manager Noël Pietersen, who has also instituted civil proceedings against businessman and developer Nic Barrow for alleged defamation.

In comments published in the media, Barrow apparently questioned Pietersen‘s competence as manager of Oudtshoorn and at Ukhahlamba District Council, his previous employer.

As a result of fraud charges laid by Barrow, police are investigating the amount paid by the municipality for Pietersen‘s housing when he transferred to Oudtshoorn last year. Investigation leader Peet Roodt yesterday said Barrow would be asked how he got the information.

Barrow said he welcomed investigation.

“I have on various occasions offered to reveal all the information and how I came to obtain it. However, I also have questions that the investigation team needs to answer,” he said.

Roodt said the investigation, which he described as urgent, was in an advanced stage and could be completed soon.
