Gauteng drivers, particularly those who use the Ben Schoeman Highway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, can now use the i-traffic website to find out about road and lane closures.

It’s part of the Intelligent Transport System launched in September 2006 that uses technology to reduce congestion and manage traffic.

The website is particularly relevant as the Gauteng freeway improvement project involving 180km of roads will cause traffic problems through until May 2010.

The website carries information on roadworks, road incidents and traffic accidents, including video shots of sections of road, and road users can register on it to receive SMS notification of problems in particular areas.
